Federal law requires commercial applicators to furnish a copy of required recordkeeping data to the customer within 30 days of any restricted-use pesticide application. Most small lawn care businesses have never heard of this requirement. The template includes a dedicated column to track when customer copies were sent — protecting you from compliance gaps you didn't even know existed.

Do I need to keep records for general-use pesticides, or only restricted-use?

Federal law specifically requires records for restricted-use pesticides (RUPs). However, several Southeast states — including North Carolina — require records for all commercial pesticide applications regardless of classification. The safest approach is to log every application. This template handles both.

How long do I need to keep pesticide application records?

Federal law requires a minimum of 2 years. North Carolina requires 3 years. Because records may be needed for legal disputes that arise long after an application, keeping records for at least 3 years is recommended regardless of your state's minimum.

What is the 30-day customer copy rule?

Federal pesticide regulations require commercial applicators to furnish a copy of the required recordkeeping data to the customer within 30 days of a restricted-use pesticide application. Many small lawn care businesses are unaware of this requirement. The template includes a dedicated column to track compliance.

What happens if I don't keep proper pesticide records?

Penalties vary by state but can include fines from $550 (first offense) to $1,100 or more for repeat violations, license suspension or revocation, and personal civil liability. Incomplete records make it nearly impossible to defend yourself if a customer claims property damage.
